My name is
Marwa Kasem and I am his mother.

kind of disability is your child diagnosed with?
Adam has cerebral
palsy, which affects his speech and ability to walk.

Is
the disability acquired or hereditary?
The disability
is acquired but the parents are related.

kind of birth did you have? C-section
7.
Were
there any complications during the pregnancy?
The
amniotic fluid level began to lower by the 7th month of the pregnancy.

What
was the condition of the child at birth?
Everything was
normal at birth
9.
When
did you start to notice that your child needs care? (what were some noticeable
symptoms and when did they start to appear?) When
Adam was about 9 months old, I began to see that he required care. Some of the
most noticeable symptoms were him not moving at all, as though he would just
lay on his back all day unless someone moved him.

11. What was the name of the school? A. Harry Moore school
12. Was it a public or private school? A private special needs school
13. What were the measures taken to
enroll Adam in the school with his condition?
There
were several meetings with the board and many tests and qualifications done in
order for Adam to enroll.
14. What difficulties did you face
while applying to a school?
The only
difficulty I faced was finding a school that would help with Adam’s conditions,
like his speech and walking. It's basically a special needs school for kids
like Adam.
15. What are the follow-up procedures
for Adam during the school day?
He goes
to school, attends his regular classes and special classes such as PT, ST, and
OT everyday.
16. Are there difficulties in
communicating with the teaching team?
No, not
at all the teachers are always in contact very easily. They’re also updating me
all the time about Adam and his progress in school. They also have seesaw
provided for all parents for all school updates.
17. Is there a rehabilitation program
for Adam in the school?
Yes, he
gets Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and Speech therapy everyday in
school.
18. Is the school programs he receives
discussed with you?
Yes,
everything was always discussed and updated with me, the staff always made sure
to keep me up to date with everything Adam does. The staff sets up a meeting
every once in a while with me to update me with his progress and well being.
19. What are the advantages that the
school offers you and your child?
The
school provides a great deal of guidance on how to communicate with and assist
Adam at home. They also assist me in guiding him in his daily activities. They
also assist Adam in communicating and listening more effectively.
20. What are your personal views of
Adam’s teaching staff?
They are
all excellent, they do everything they could do to help him. They are always
there when you need them and there isn’t anything that they’re not doing that
they should be.
21. Is there any health care provider
for Adam?
Yes, his
insurance has a homemaker assigned for him that provides care for him at home.
22. Is there any significant progress in
Adam’s condition through his attendance at school? Yes, his condition only got better when he went to school. Adam used to
not walk at all, now he can walk on his own and he can communicate and express
himself better. His knowledge has also expanded by a lot ever since he started
school.
23. Is there any failure of Adam attending
school?
Not at all, in fact he enjoys going to school
so there aren’t any failures.
24. What is your suggestion to improve
Adam’s condition in school?
Speech
treatment should be increased because his speech abilities haven't developed as
much as his other skills.
25. Are you aware of all the advantages
Adam can get in school?
Yes, I
am fully aware of all the advantages Adam is able to get in school.
