Over the last 2 decades, the awareness and adoption of information technology have rapidly increased across the most business sector (education inclusive). As students with disability continue to experience a wide range of problems, ranging from learning difficulties, and integration with other students, to teachers and school discrimination. Information Technology has been identified as a tool that can use be used to improve or enhance the learning process of special needs students. To foster learning activities in schools for disabled students, the use of Information and Communication Technologies has been introduced. This innovation was introduced to assist students during their lifetime and to increase access to learning resources and knowledge. However, to investigate the effectiveness or efficiency of these technologies, Drigas and Ioannidou conducted a systematic review of the literature to evaluate studies conducted from 2001 to 2010 that deal with diagnosis and interve...

Racism and discrimination continue to exist in our society which often results in segregation. This issue has steadily established or moved into the educational sector especially the school for special education students. The segregation that exists in society could still be a reason why Spanish-speaking parents are less likely to be engaged or involved in the educational decision-making process. However, to gather information or perception of both parents, Burke et al. decided to explore the similarities and differences between both parents of children with disabilities. This study is very important because the literature on this problem statement is scanty (comparison between special education experiences between English- and Spanish-Speaking parents). In the article, the authors try to explore the similarities and differences between both parents of children with disabilities. According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the role of parent are vital, an...

The attitude of teachers toward integrating disabled students into mass education has been a major discussion over the years. Teacher altitude simply means the stance of the teacher towards the situation. Attitude may be social or personal. The idea of integration has encountered different challenges ranging from overload curriculum, lack of material and condition to influence activity, overloaded classroom, to stereotypes towards the success of the integration. LUPU researched to examine or gather teachers’ opinions on the integration of students with special needs in normal schools. The article describes students with special needs as disabled students. The article aims to provide an answer to the question, ‘What is teachers’ opinion on the integration of students with special needs in normal schools?’ Integration is a way or an approach to achieving normalization. Integration in the education system is a process whereby a child is adjusted to the requirements of the school he ...

Interview feedback In an interview conducted with Marwa Kasem, the mother of Adam Sayed, a child suffering from a disability. The interview was conducted to investigate the challenges faced by the mother over the child in terms of education, enrollment into a school, and so on. It could be seen that disabilities in children are often discovered during the first 12 months of birth when the child failed to undergo activities that his peers were doing effortlessly. Another issue discovered during the interview was the late enrollment of the child in school. Adam began school at the age of 4 years old after a rigorous qualification test by the school. The boy was eventually admitted into Harry Moore school; a private special school for students with disabilities. The enrollment test conducted by the school also revealed some of the challenges facing special children as the board met several times to decide whether to accept Adam or not. Aside from this, when Marwa (Adam’s mothe...

Charter schools are similar to public schools, but the major difference is that the schools have been granted operation autonomy. The schools operate under a charter or contract, but the states hold the school accountable for some terms needed to improve the performance of students and specify the conditions under which the school can operate.  This type of school began operation or established in 1992 in St Paul, Minnesota and it has played a vital role in the education system reform. In the United States, there are over 6000 charter schools across the states and the District of Columbia. This type of school is not permitted to impose admission requirements, cannot charge tuition, and must select its applicants by lottery (Batdorff et al., 2014). Initially, the charter movement was largely criticized as some people believes that its creation will affect or drain the resources of the public and its ability to serve all populations including special-needs, lower-ability, an...
